Staff of Barbados Port Inc. (BPI) did not let February past without showing
the spirit of Valentine. This year they were able to demonstate their
passion for the season in poetry and in song at BPI’s Post Valentine after
work lime held at the company’s Sports and Cultural Club.
According to event organiser, Meshell Rawlins of the Accounts Department,
the purpose of the event was to promote camaraderie among staff. “Our
staff was treated to a sumptuous dinner and we had lots of fun listening to
the poems and the Karaoke. Our heartfelt thanks to all the contributors,
especially for the prizes of a weekend for 2 at the Crane Resorts, that went
to the karaoke winner and dinner for 2 at the Hilton, for the winner of the
poetry. Of course consolation winners did not leave empty handed as they
too were also given prizes.”
Clyde Springer was the eventual winner of the karaoke competition
with ‘Durham Town’ while Tracy Barrow copped second place with ‘Saving
All My Love”. Third was Tony Bishop who sang ‘El Paso’ and fourth, David
Lashley with ‘Great Pretender’.

In the poetry competition, Sheron Hartley took first place with ‘Undying
Love’, Kerry-Ann Deane settled for second place with a poem entitled ‘You
were a Dream Inside my Heart’ while third was, Cherise Fitt with ‘My
Unborn Child’. Poems were later placed on a Tree of Love made from
bamboo.
