Long after Barbadians have settled down to sleep, operations at the Bridgetown Port continue, as stevedores and dockers work throughout the night to ensure that general cargo ships are able to discharge and load their cargo, and depart for the next port of call within 24 hours. Container vessels, which are more efficient, have shorter turnaround times.

Turnaround time is a key measure of efficiency in ports, and at the Bridgetown Port container vessels typically arrive and leave within fifteen hours.

To enable the shipping agents to monitor the movement of cargo, electronic reports on the activities of containers are transmitted to the agents daily.
